Selling USDT on Friday or at the weekend: when the money actually moves
IWGT quotes, takes USDT and confirms trades at any hour, seven days a week. What keeps a calendar is the bank leg: UAEFTS settles AED Monday to Friday before the bank cut-off, so a trade agreed on Friday evening, Saturday or Sunday pays out on Monday.

Is Friday a working day in the UAE?
Friday is a working day in the UAE for banks and most businesses. The UAE weekend moved to Saturday and Sunday in January 2022. Bank branches stay open on Friday, though hours run shorter than the rest of the week.
A licensed OTC desk keeps its own schedule, and IWGT's is simple: the desk is online around the clock. How that meets the bank week is set out in our guide to UAE dealing hours.
Does IWGT deal on Fridays?
Yes. IWGT deals on Friday, on Saturday and on Sunday: a dealer issues a written quote and the desk takes your USDT at any hour. The desk has no closing day of its own.
What does keep a calendar is the payout. A trade agreed on Friday before the bank cut-off pays AED the same day; one agreed on Friday evening, Saturday or Sunday has its AED leg sent on Monday, the next UAEFTS business day. USD by SWIFT follows the banking days of every country on the route.
Approving your trading account does not depend on the day. New clients can complete onboarding checks at any time, so the account is ready before the desk's week even starts. Waiting until Friday afternoon to start onboarding is the most common reason a client misses that week's bank days.
What happens to a trade agreed right before the weekend?
A trade agreed just before the weekend settles on the next day the relevant rail is open. The desk has no closing time of its own; the bank rail behind the payout has a calendar, and that is the clock that matters.
AED moves through UAEFTS, and that rail settles only on UAE bank business days — Monday to Friday, not on Saturday, Sunday or public holidays. USD moves through SWIFT, and SWIFT also counts the business days of every other country on the route. Learn how UAEFTS actually processes a payment for the technical detail.
The table below sets out the full week, matching the desk's round-the-clock dealing against the bank settlement rail.
| Day | Desk dealing | Bank settlement rail | When AED lands |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Open, 24 hours | Closed — no UAEFTS settlement | Monday, before the bank cut-off |
| Monday | Open, 24 hours | Open | Same day, before cut-off |
| Tuesday | Open, 24 hours | Open | Same day, before cut-off |
| Wednesday | Open, 24 hours | Open | Same day, before cut-off |
| Thursday | Open, 24 hours | Open, shorter hours | Same day before cut-off; else Friday morning |
| Friday | Open, 24 hours | Open, shortened hours | Same day if agreed before the early cut-off; else Monday |
| Saturday | Open, 24 hours | Closed | Monday, before the bank cut-off |
Monday to Thursday before the cut-off, and Friday before its shorter cut-off, give a same-day AED payout; a Saturday or Sunday trade pays on Monday. The desk itself is open on every row.
If you need AED before the weekend, agree the trade on a bank day with room to spare before the cut-off: Monday to Thursday morning is the comfortable window, Friday morning the last one. The quote request itself can go in at any hour.
Why does crypto move but bank settlement waits?
USDT settles on its own blockchain, which runs continuously with no weekend or cut-off. A transfer sent at 2am on a Saturday confirms in the same few minutes as one sent at noon on a Tuesday. The bank leg of the trade does not share that rhythm.
Confirmation speed also depends on the network carrying the USDT. Our comparison of USDT settlement times by network covers TRC20, ERC20 and other rails in detail. None of those networks change how fast AED or USD can leave a UAE bank.
This is the gap that catches people out. Your USDT can move at any hour, but the AED or USD it converts into stays bound by the bank rail carrying it. Selling on a Friday evening gets you a quote and a confirmed trade; the money still arrives on Monday.
The bottom line on selling USDT around the weekend
The desk deals every day of the week; the bank does not. Agree the trade Monday to Friday before the bank cut-off for a same-day AED payout; a Saturday or Sunday trade pays on Monday. Our published spread bands stay the same regardless of the day you trade.
FAQ
Can I get a quote from IWGT on Friday?
Yes, and on Saturday and Sunday too. The desk is online 24/7. Whether the AED lands the same day depends on the bank cut-off, not on the desk.
Is Friday part of the UAE weekend?
No. The UAE weekend has been Saturday and Sunday since January 2022. Friday is a working day for banks and most businesses, though bank hours run shorter than the rest of the week.
What happens if I sell USDT late on Thursday?
If the trade is agreed before the sending bank's UAEFTS cut-off, AED still lands the same day. Agreed after the cut-off, the payment releases on Friday morning, since UAE banks remain open that day.
Does USDT keep moving over the weekend even though the banks are closed?
Yes. USDT settles on its own blockchain, which runs continuously with no weekend. Only the bank leg of the trade, the AED or USD payout, waits for the next business day.
Why does IWGT deal seven days a week?
Because USDT does. Clients sell from exchanges and wallets at all hours, and a desk that only quotes in office hours leaves them holding price risk over the weekend. The bank leg still follows the bank calendar.
When does a trade agreed on Sunday actually pay out AED?
It pays out on Monday. Banks are closed on Sunday, so UAEFTS does not run that day, even though the desk itself is open and dealing.
Trade at any hour, settle on the bank day
