What are fiat on-ramps and off-ramps?
A fiat on-ramp is a service that turns government-issued money, such as UAE dirhams, into cryptocurrency. A fiat off-ramp does the reverse: it turns cryptocurrency back into fiat and pays it out to a bank account. In the UAE, both are regulated services run by licensed exchanges and OTC desks.

How do on-ramps and off-ramps work in the UAE?
An on-ramp takes your dirhams or dollars by bank transfer or card and credits you with cryptocurrency; an off-ramp takes your cryptocurrency and pays dirhams or dollars into your bank account. In Dubai both directions are regulated by VARA and must run through licensed providers: regulated exchanges and licensed OTC desks sit inside the perimeter, P2P platforms are marketplaces for private counterparties.
Whichever ramp you use, check the licence first: ask for the number and look it up in VARA's public register. IWGT's is VL/24/12/002, linked from the licence section. Then check that settlement goes only to an account in your own name and that the quote is one written all-in price. Desks start around 100,000 USDT; below that a regulated exchange is usually simpler.
Why it matters when selling USDT in the UAE
Selling USDT is only half the job; the other half is getting dirhams into a bank account that will accept them. A licensed off-ramp settles to an account in your own name from a segregated client account, which gives your bank a clean paper trail from a regulated counterparty. An OTC desk is an off-ramp built for size: one quote for the whole ticket, spread published in the pricing section.
Illustrative example
An off-ramp quote is the 3.6725 peg minus the spread (see the USDT to AED rate). Off-ramping 250,000 USDT at a 0.20% spread: gross 250,000 × 3.6725 = AED 918,125, spread AED 1,836, AED 916,289 received by UAEFTS the same business day. The step-by-step route is in selling USDT in Dubai.
FAQ
Is an OTC desk an on-ramp or an off-ramp?
Both. A licensed OTC desk converts AED or USD into USDT when you buy and converts USDT back into fiat when you sell. The same account, quote process and bank settlement rail serve both directions.
What is the cheapest way to off-ramp crypto in the UAE?
For tickets from around 100,000 USDT, a licensed OTC desk at a 0.08%–0.40% spread is the cheapest regulated route, as of September 2026. Below that size, a regulated exchange is usually cheaper once withdrawal fees are counted.
Can I use an on-ramp without identity checks in the UAE?
No. Licensed providers in the UAE are required to verify identity on fiat conversions at any size. A ramp advertising "no KYC" operates outside the regulated perimeter, and your bank may treat its transfers accordingly.
How fast is a fiat off-ramp in Dubai?
A licensed desk settles AED by UAEFTS the same business day you trade, once your account is approved. USD goes by SWIFT and takes 2 to 5 business days.
Off-ramp USDT with same-day bank settlement
IWGT is a VARA-licensed Broker-Dealer in Dubai. All-in spread 0.08–0.40% by size, published openly. AED reaches your own account by UAEFTS the same business day once your account is approved.
